Matteo Thun for Arzberg, Germany 1988
A 5-piece tea service comprising a tea pot, sugar bowl, creamer, and two tea cups and saucers. Very simple, geometric shapes in unusual proportions enliven these most familiar of objects.
Finished without any superfluous design details, the brilliant white porcelain allows the focus to remain on the beautiful geometric shapes.
Matteo Thun is an Architect and designer who in 1981, along with Ettore Sottsass, co-founded the Memphis group; a hugely influential design movement throughout the 1980’s. He also worked as creative director at Swatch from 1990 until 1993.
Arzberg was founded in 1887 in Arzberg, Bavaria (Germany)…an area often referred to as the soul of Germany. They rose to prominence in 1931 with the design of (terrine) ‘shape 1382’; designed by Hermann Gretsch as an answer the challenge “if your such an expert…then go and make one”, laid out by the company director.
